  1. My understanding from this article is that three parties in the area could not extricate this woman from her predictament and a successful rescue only came about because of a satellite phone and volunteers. When we step off the neve onto the glacier I think that it is fair to suggest that ski touring does become mountaineering and a higher standard of self-reliance is called for. There is also that troubling implication that the victim, in this case, may have been a bit cavalier about the whole episode...
  2. Crevassed on the White Salmon? Read this article and note the observations from the head of the ski patrol. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/s...al_gam_mostview Its about falling unroped into a bergshrund on the Spearhead. Three parties in the area and the successful rescue only came about because of a call from a satellite phone and the time and efforts of volunteers.
  3. Possibly ice-worm excrement...This stuff was thick and sticky, it scraped off black, stained my hands black, yet there was no pigmentation on the surface of the glacier. Would ice worms be protected in The Mt Baker wilderness? Imagine what your stomach would be lined with if you had been melting that snow for drinking? My advice...dig deep, dig very deep.
  4. I dropped my Sony DSC on the Roman Wall, right in the middle of the slope. I guess its drowned by now, but if you found it before the rain,it would be nice to recover it and my pictures. Also, skiing below 2000M and above tree-line around Coleman Glacier and east of Heliotrope Ridge our bases got covered in this black tar-like 'goop'. Any ideas what this was? Pollution condensation? Plot to contaminate America's water at the source? Pollen?
