Great post on Curtis Ridge ascent. I'm interested in Liberty Ridge. I've only climbed the DC route and been up to Schurman a few times (weathered out). What time of year is best to climb liberty ridge? Is ice climbing required? Do most people camp at glacier basin-curtis ridge-thumb rock-summit?

I actually have not climbed another route other than the south side. I guess we do it at least once a year because we know the route well and get back to Timberline in time for brunch! How advanced/difficult is the sunshine route--I was also considering the Cooper Spur route. It would be nice to avoid the crowd at the Pearly Gates. I always feel like I'm taking my life into my hands and wonder if I should just turn around at the hogs back.

Anyone have an update on the Hood Climbing conditions? I haven't got in my summit this year and I suppose after this hot weather it will be too late? I'm conservative, so if it's not great, I'll wait until next year. Thanks!

My husband and I have a permit to climb the East side of Rainier over the 4th of July Weekend. My dad was supposed to come with us, but will be unable to make it. We aren't big fans of 2-person rope teams and were wondering if someone would like to join us. Our itinerary is: Day 1 Hike to camp Schurman from white river Day 2 Rest day at camp Schurman Day 3 Summmit Day 4 Hike out to white river We aren't speed climbers, but have summitted Rainier twice from Muir. We've been up to camp Schurman twice also and weathered out both times, so if it looks like crappy weather, we won't be going. PM me if you are interested. Thanks, Carrie

Thanks for the link. Tonight does look better, but I have to work tomorrow. :-( I guess I'll keep watching the forecast today and early tomorrow. We could make a go of it and turn around if it's too icky. I'm climbing rainier in a month and really wanted to get in a hood summit beforehand.

I am thinking of going for a summit attempt on Friday night (6/24) on the s. side of hood. Is anyone else considering a summit as we have a possible break in the weather?

Has anyone climbed the south side recently? I'm wondering about the condition of the bergschrund (sp?) and generally how the rockfall is at the pearly gates. Thanks! Carrie

I am going to be climbing the Mt. Baker Easton Glacier route in 2 weeks (labor day weekend). Do most people camp at Morovitz Meadow? How long is the climb from the meadow to the summit? It sounds like we'll need to rope up the entire way from the Meadow area. What can I expect on this route this time of year? Thanks! Carrie
