It will decidedly surprise some people to hear me say this, but just thinking about America's perverted "compromises" is giving me a two-Tylenol headache. Let me begin by citing a range of examples from the public sphere. For starters, America's eccentricity is surpassed only by its vanity and its vanity is surpassed only by its empty theorizing. (Remember its theory that immoralism is a be-all, end-all system that should be forcefully imposed upon us?) If I didn't think America would undermine everyone's capacity to see, or change, the world as a whole, I wouldn't say that its demands are evil. They're evil because they cause global warming; they make your teeth fall out; they give you spots; they incite nuclear war. And, as if that weren't enough, America's reason is not true reason. It does not seek the truth but only ornery answers, yellow-bellied resolutions to conflicts.
Still, America says it's going to introduce absurd, baseless, terror-ridden lawsuits intended to destroy the lives of countless innocent people in a lustrum or two. Is it out of its mischievous mind? The answer is fairly obvious when you consider that it likes forcing me to sell my soul to the devil. That's the most damnable thing about it. It's also why America uses pharisaism to empty garbage pails full of the vilest slanders and defamations on the clean garments of honorable people. That's the large elephant in the room that nobody ever talks about. Nevertheless, I contend that people really ought to start talking about it because then they'd realize that I cannot compromise with America; it is without principles. I cannot reason with it; it is without reason. But I can warn it and with a warning it must indubitably take to heart: I intend to look closely at America's opuscula to see what makes them so effectual at challenging all I stand for. I should expect to find -- this is a guess that I currently lack sufficient knowledge to verify -- that America's op-ed pieces are rife with contradictions and difficulties; they're utterly foolhardy, meet no objective criteria, and are unsuited for a supposedly educated population. And as if that weren't enough, America's pleas are related to the elements and bases of neocolonialism both organizationally and ideologically. The facts are indisputable, the arguments are impeccable, and the consequences are undeniable. So why does America warrant that it is a model organization? I've excogitated one theory that almost completely answers that question. Unfortunately, it fails to take into account that this is a lesson for those with eyes to see. It is a lesson not so much about America's adversarial behavior but about the way that we can never return to the past. And if we are ever to move forward to the future, we have to act as a positive role model for younger people.
We must worry about two kinds of pea-brained spielers: uppity and benighted. America is among the former. I pause to note that as soon as America found the resources to do so it lost no time in breaking down our communities. The inevitable followed: Disagreeable egotists (especially the cocky type) started to pigeonhole people into predetermined categories. The scariest part of all of this is that I've never bothered America. Yet America wants to make us the helpless puppets of our demographic labels. Whatever happened to "live and let live"?
It may seem at first that you and I have a lot more class than America. When we descend to details, however, we see that its few successes exhibit no tendency to be commensurate with innate capacity. Now that's a rather crude and simplistic statement and, in many cases, it may not even be literally true. But there is a sense in which it is generally true, a sense in which it truly expresses how plaguing our minds is a hallmark of a totalitarian regime. End of story. Actually, I should add that I admit I have a tendency to become a bit insensitive whenever I rebuke it for trying to use every conceivable form of diplomacy, deception, pressure, coercion, bribery, treason, and terror to plague our minds. While I am desirous of mending this tiny personality flaw, whenever America announces that it does the things it does "for the children", its bedfellows applaud on cue and the accolades are long and ostentatious. What's funny is that they don't provide similar feedback whenever I tell them that America loves getting up in front of people and telling them that children should get into cars with strangers who wave lots of yummy candy at them. It then boasts about how it'll lay down diktats that force me to put myself in harm's way by next weekend. It's all part of the media spectacle that is America. Of course, it soaks it up and wallows in it like a pig in mud. Speaking of pigs and mud, every so often you'll see America lament, flog itself, cry mea culpa for stirring up trouble, and vow never again to be so headlong. Sadly, it always reverts to its old behavior immediately afterwards, making me think that it has repeatedly threatened to focus too much on one side of the equation and not enough on the broader perspective of things. Maybe that's just for maximum scaremongering effect. Or maybe it's because America says that the few of us who complain regularly about its antics are simply spoiling the party. That is the most despicable lie I have ever heard in my entire life.
Sure, we could just sit back and let America violate the basic tenets of journalism and scholarship, but that prospect really grates on people who have any kind of common sense. If I were elected Ruler of the World, my first act of business would be to embrace the cause of self-determination and recognize the leading role and clearer understanding of those people for whom the quintessential struggle is an encompassing liberation movement against the totality of irreligionism. I would further use my position to inform certain segments of the Earth's population that I respect the English language and believe in the use of words as a means of communication. Foul underachievers like America, however, consider spoken communication as merely a set of noises uttered to excite emotions in superstitious adolescents in order to convince them to threaten our core values, allegiances, and beliefs. While this letter hasn't provided anything in the way of a concrete plan of action, it may help us focus our thinking a little better when we do work out a plan. For now, we must address the real issues faced by mankind. I will unmistakably be happy to have your help in this endeavor.

Gear Aquisition Syndrome that is.
My gear closet is a virtual time capsule of materials and specializtion.
Goretex gave way to soft shell which gave way to e-event. Enough jackets, pants, mitts to outfit a small army. They all worked well enough in their time, except for GoreTex which contrary to marketing hype does not breathe.
Synthetic parks, down parkas. Synthetic sleeping bags, down sleeping bags. Bivy sacs and tents, different materials and sizes.Sleeping pads of all description.
And how many frikking ice axes does one need? Long, short , straight, curved, leash less or not.
I found that I still had my original 3 piece steel fork, knife,spoon camper utensil set. Of course I also have a lexan and Titanium set.
Trail runners, light hikers, plastics, high altitude boots would have one believe that I run a second hand boot shop as a sideline.
I won't even touch on my quiver of skis...
It may be hard to believe but I am actually quite anti- consumerism and only upgrade stuff if it does a better job or is lighter.
Is there a cure for G.A.S.?

Glad to hear everyone is OK.The avy conditions around these parts are like playing russian roulette. I really, really want to go out and ski/climb stuff but haven't for 2 months now due to the conditions. Unless something changes in the snowpack soon, I'll be waiting until springtime.

I have found these are the perfect backcountry boot and have used them exclusively for the last 3 years. The people who say you need a 4 buckle boot to drive a big ski are just parroting the marketing hypesters. My Icelantic Shamans 160/110/130 are big and steep chutes/faces/powder are what our group like to ski. Super comfy to walk in. Crampons fits them well. Light weight. Everyone who gets out of bed in the morning faces varying degrees of risk. We climbers and skiers push the limits sometimes looking for whatever high gets us out in the first place. But looking at the video makes me think that you can only pull the tail of a sleeping tiger so many times before it wakes up and eats you.

Use a very simple technique known as short selling when the market is dropping. Try it and you'll like to be on the dark side. It's been EZ pickings lately. I find the headlines that scream "market sufferers biggest drop in X years" quite amusing. It's much better to just go with the flow, whatever direction it is.

As someone who daytrades everyday for a living I can only offer these generalities:
1. Take no advice from anyone or any source that tells you what a particular stock is going to do in the future. No one knows.
2.Have no pre concieved notion in your head that YOU know what a stock is going to do. That concept will beat you psycologicly forcing you to hold on to losers by not admitted you were wrong.
3.Pay yourself as the market make money available to you. Holding out for the home run is foolish. Cashing out of singles, doubles,triples puts real money not phantom profits in your pockets.
4.Buy uptrending stocks. Short sell downtrending stocks. Reverse your position when the stocks reverse their trends.
5. It takes no skill at all to put on a single winning trade. You are either right or wrong. Move on. The skill is managing the losing trades so they don't take too much away from your buying power and managing the winning trades so you can increase your buying power.
6. Trading/investing is a probability game just like a casino. Ask yourself how can a casino make consistent profit on games that have a random indivdual outcome? Because over the course of time the system they use(money/risk managemnet)puts the probalities in their favour. AS a trader you can use the exact same techniques.
7. Know yourself before you start this game because the markets teach expensive life lessons to those who don't.

Many of us on this site have been to the Cerise Creek/Keiths hut area numereous times. The following post absolutely blows my mind. Knowing exactly where this event took place makes it really hit home. As much as I want to ski in all this glorious powder, I will be staying at home instead.
Subject: [MCR] Anniversary Glacier Avalanche
Date: Sun, 6 Jan 2008 23:53:29 -0800
I was skiing in the Cerise Creek drainage this weekend and observed a large natural avalanche worth noting. The East ridge of Matier above the Anniversary Glacier has avalanched and has run the full length of the valley below the glacier to end approximately 500 meters beyond the toe of the moraines. Debris has crossed Cerise Creek and removed a large swath of the 2nd generation trees on the east side of the creek, then turned the corner and ran down Cerise creek for another 100 meters. At least 300-400 meters of the standard approach to Keith's Hut is under 1 to 3+ meters of debris, including about a 200 meter section of Cerise Creek. Limited observations of the fracture line show it right at ridge top and it appears to be 3-4 meters in depth, possibly triggered by cornice failure during the recent high winds. There also appears to be a significant fracture line and avalanche on the moraine/boulder slopes underneath Joffre, most likely triggered by the impact of the first avalanche off of the East Ridge of Matier. I could not see the middle steeper section of the Anniversary to see if it had slid as well.
I was in the parking lot at 0930 on Saturday Jan. 5th and heard a large event, but with poor visibility could not be sure if it was a large wind gust or an avalanche. When we reached the debris at noon there were a large amount of branches on the snow surface with little snow cover despite heavy snowfall, so I am fairly certain it ran at around 0930 that morning. Luckily there were no people on the approach at the time, though it is a very sobering sight to see such a commonly traveled route under so much debris. A good reminder to always question your choice of route, and what you are exposed to at that time, regardless of how "common" the route is.

War with Iran office pool

I predict joint US/ Israel air strikes targeting first their AA missle defense networks and then a volley of cruise missles on the nuke facilities sooner rather than later. Coinciding with a no moon night or solar flare activity(if any) to take advantge of radio blackouts, geomagnetic storms in daylight.
It'll be interesting to see how the latest Chinese and Russian detection/protection systems stack up on the Irainian side.
I also wonder what arms Iran has close by to Israel territory in place for their response.
