  1. Count me in if you haven't found somebody yet, I'd be up for it. I have not climbed Rainier before, but have been up Mt. Adams and have the glacier stuff down.
  2. I'm looking for partners, preferably with some experience that could teach me a thing or two. I have been up Adams S. Spur, done some cragging, and taken a crevasse rescue course, but basically just looking to get a bit more under my belt this summer.
  3. Hey there- Want to make plans for the next weekend you have free? My schedule is pretty wide open at the moment and really want to get some climbs in this summer. I have most of my own gear, minus a rope. PM me with your thoughts?
  4. I would really like to join you this summer. I have a little experience; crevasse course on Hood, summited Adams south spur, top-roping at crags, many a scramble... Let me know what you had in mind.
  5. is bear spray a good idea? i've heard mixed reviews on this one. the last thing i want to do is make the "man eating grizzley" wounded and furious, right? on the other hand, in the worst case scenario, playing dead sounds like no fun either. hmmm... maybe i'll just be sure to have that slow moving prey type pal along with me at all times.
  6. I'll be clearing trail this summer for 2 months in Denali State Park and wondered if any of you had done this kind of work before or maybe you've spent time in this part of AK. I'm basically just interested in hearing more about what to expect while I am there and if any of you have good pointers for me, I'd love to hear them.
  7. has anyone seen what the snow conditions are like along the I-90 corridor? I am thinking about hiking McClellan Butte on Mon. or Tues. afternoonish and if anyone would like to tag along, they would be more than welcome to pitch in on gas. I'm also wondering about the hike up to camp Muir as well if anyone has been up there recently.
  8. Ah, yes. Sorry, Seattle is my home. Pretty much anywhere within 4 hrs. or so of the city would be ideal, I've wanted to explore more of the N Cascades too. Any thoughts?
  9. i snowboard too, so maybe something that incorporates that in as well?
  10. can anyone recommend some fun climbs/hikes/general local adventures for me while i'm in town Dec. 20th-27th. I'm what you'd call a newbie.
  11. no doubt! that's a lot of work. have you done a lot of climbing in your day, seems like i've heard from a few people that crevasse falls aren't all too common. i don't know. out of curiosity, where did they occur for you?
  12. the whole idea of it seems intimidating, but I guess some practice would help. the fact that i'm in this sort of alternative "landlocked situation" aka, I'm from the PNW and want nothing more than to be a mountain climber, but I live in Chicago, IL. makes my situation unique and challenging, but yes practice and experienced friends would definately help. god i miss mountains.
  13. how would a person on the rescuing end of a two person rope team simultaniously hold an arrest while placing anchors and then proceed to rescue the fallen partner? How close to impossible is this? I have held an arrest position while a partner sets an anchor for a class and that was difficult enough! Obviously, 3 or more is better, but in that situation, what does a person do?
  14. thanks for the ideas! i'll have to get back to ya'll on that one.
  15. Where are some good spots for crevasse rescue practice preferably in Washington. I would like to get a few willing victims, ahem, folks together and make an afternoon of it perhaps around Christmas when I'm in town.
  16. would anyone like to do this in the next week or so. I'm leaving for a three week trip to B.C. on the 30th and would really like to get up there before then. any takers?
  17. yes, i'd like to learn how to climb rock as well; i'm pretty much up for anything.
  18. I'm relatively new to the sport and I'm incredibly eager to gain experience and make friends from the climbing community. I have taken a crevasse rescue class and climbed Mt. Adams last year; now I'm looking for new challenges and maybe some good people who wouldn't mind taking me under their wing to some extent so that I will be climbing better and more often.
