  1. I agree. Great route on a great peice of rock! Basically, 2 pitches up to the thumb notch, tag the thumb, then the long scramble off to really round off the alpine experience.

Definitely worth doing, and a huge shout out to the folks who replaced the bolts!!!! Replaced bolts make these routes enjoyable, instead of a one time stunt that you survive, never to repeat again.

Who did the replacement btw, seem like I read about it in Tylers bolt replacement thread a while back.

  2. Scott and Rick, thanks for taking me up there. This area is so awesome! The Steeple and Coethedral. Everyone has seen the pictures, have you ever seen anything like it. I have never been to Maple Canyon or Cochise Stronghond, but in photos they look quite a bit different than these areas. The knobs are course volcanic rock, very sticky. Super fun!! Great views from nice summit. Cool hike in with big trees.

    Scott, congrats on the route!

Scott, Bill, and the many others who have made these areas happen, Thank You!

Come on out folks! You will have a blast.

How about a few more pics from Sunday, Scott?

  3. Awesome route Tyler, real fun to climb. The 3rd pitch is amazing, slightly overhanging, many jugs, great rock.

I would also like to thank you for your bolt replacement efforts. I was looking at a picture of hardware you replaced, must have been 100 bolt hangers. Would be real cool if you could replace the remaining 1/4" bolts on Barad Dur, lead bolts and anchors.

Wolf Rock is so awesome! Must have been real fun putting up all those routes.

  4. I was lucky enough to spend a few days with David, getting rope-gunned around Yosemite. That is the only trip that I got to climb both Half Dome (reg route) and El Cap (west face) each in a day. He was a heck of a climber. Of course the part that impacts me now is how much I enjoyed his company. He was funny, kind, humble, mellow, relaxed yet motivated; a great guy to be stuck on a climbing trip with.

For those of you who have not, check out his trip reports. Sheesh! What a Globetrotting Bad-Ass!

I will miss you David. I will be one of the many.

  5. $20 a piece. One Smiley's and two Chouinard ice axes. Good condition. One of the Chouinards appears to have a black handle, it is just a bicycle inner tube that can be easily removed.

  6. Thanks guys. So is this a bad time to mention that I am looking for other parents to do some family climbing with. I am very open to going to non-rockfall prone areas.

OK, I was reminded that Beacon is not a great place to take kids, too much rock fall. But I did feel sheltered under the big roof.

Hope to do more cragging this fall. Eli is showing a lot of promise with his climbing at the playground.
