Would it be OK to bolt a paved climb?

Why is it NOT OK to place bolts, because they defile the sanctity of Nature, but OK to drive 500 miles on a strip of asphalt, in a car, to do a trad climb in Wyoming or something, and enjoy a Pure & Natural Experience? Discuss.
