I could responde to each of your points and we could back and forth for hours and it would be fun over a beer but not while i'm trying to get something done. suffice it to say, since we atheists are out numbered by you christians, i'd say my concern over being prostelytized to by christians is a much more real concern than you having to deal w/the occasional atheist. i don't think that i was disrespectful in my post. it cracks me up that you'd even turn it into a debate. there is no room for debate on this subject. there is no compromise between the two sides.

no of us here work so we don't have money for gear so we don't climb yeah, if you didn't tell me you're "christian", i'd think you were a great guy. heck i might even like you in person. however, the topic of your post was your religion and sharing your religion in the mountains. You can’t have it both ways. You can’t announce that you’re climbing a mountain and looking for like minded partners to spread “the word” and not expect to get a response from those who don’t share your beliefs. You have no room for shock or indignation. If you are truly surprised by this response, rather than just annoyed that your post didn’t sail smoothly by the attention of those who don’t share your beliefs, then you are truly oblivious to the world around you. News flash! Not everyone is a Christian, Not everyone feel the need for the security blanket of religion. Some of us even find it offensive and insulting that you think that our chosen lives need some sort of overhaul by adding religion. We are not weak minded fools who have made the decision not to believe in a Christian god lightly. Most of us have given some measure of consideration. I know you will find this hard to believe but some of us actually find organized Christianity offensive. How would you respond if I posted seeking like minded atheist climbers to deprogram Christians on Denali?

I used to just go on vacation someplace from before Christmas until after New Years. Due to some job changes this hasn’t been possible in recent years so my family insists that we have some big family function. I used to host it the weekend before Christmas but due to people’s work schedules it will be on Christmas this year. I do this out of respect for my mother. We will not say grace or a prayer at my table. We will not observe any religious aspects of the holiday in my home. Everyone is aware of this. If mom wants the whole family to get together for dinner that’s fine but I’d rather do it for a family member’s birthday instead of Jesus’s. There will be a Christmas tree b/c I like the pretty lights. Just b/c I’m an atheist doesn’t mean that I’m evil, incarnate. I still have a family that I like to visit….occasionally.

ACLU has sued to; Halt the singing of Christmas Carols in public facilities. Deny tax -exempt status for Churches. Remove all military chaplains. Remove all Christian symbols from public property. Prohibit Bible reading in classrooms even during free time. Remove In God We Trust from our coins. Remove God from the Pledge of Allegiance Deny federal funding for Boy Scouts until they admit gays and atheists i only have a problem with two of those. if i'm not mistaken the military offers religious services to a wide range of religions so i'm ok w/that. the boy scouts are a private organization right? no problem w/them having their own standards. i did have my son join the scouts b/c of their beliefs. they make a choice. i made a choice. nothing wrong w/that.

At about 3% of the population, I wouldn't feel too threatened. Pontif, when are going out to worship the powdery white god on the holy long shoes? Richard Dawkins says that there are probably more atheists than there are Jews in the world, but they tend to be so independent and such freethinkers that they don't tend to organize and form lobbying groups like religious groups as the Jews have. Just sayin'. great! maybe all of us atheist should get together, pick a really cool spot, and declare it our homeland.

kevbone, how would you feel if someone was teaching your little boy about god/religion without your consent? Happens every day in public school. Separation of church and state? yeah, you'd like to think that. wait til the first time your kid has an argument with a classmate about religion and the teacher has to get involved. there's a lot of subtle ways that our children are exposed at school
