  1. Las Lenas rocks. I was there 4 years ago. Sweet fossil fields at 12,000 ft. Nice caves to hang out in and drink booze. Smelly hot springs to drink beer in if you don't mind all the mud and decaying buildings. Loads of opportunity to lose your money in the casino. UFO nightclub full of talent from B.A. Tasty lomo completos and Quilmes beer at the base. Malbec wine and mate with the locals. And of course...sick skiing once they dig out the Marte ski lift or you get your arse on the ski cat.

  2. Fort William is cheap. Although with the exchange rate, probably not so cheap just now. There's a lot of options from youth hostel to hotel and of course local B&Bs which are typically great. You can get around on the bus in the local area but a car is probably best.

Ben Nevis in Winter can be hairy. Don't underestimate conditions. I know it's not very high but the weather can change quick in there.

I'm going home next Friday for 10 days. When are you going?

Is this some kind of fuckin' therapy thread? Your shrink told you to atone for your errant ways by 'fessing up and reaping the near certain affirming thumbs up stories that validate your being?

You lot suck you soft bunch of pansy yanks!!! boxing_smiley.gif

This story may be a fake but at least it didn't result in 1000 American GI's dying and countless thousands of Iraqis. Your President told a lie far worse than this little story. Democracy in this country has been corrupted and the only thing that could persuade me otherwise would be the impeachment of the liar and resultant jail term for him and the other orchestrators of this fraudulent war. the_finger.gif

  5. If weight's not an issue, you might wanna think about a Thermos. Personally, I use my little metal hip flask on day trips. For longer, I second the gatorade bottle...these boys obviously drink more than me and capacity's clearly an issue with the wee hip flask.

  6. Maybe if Richard Daley lightened up on suppressing an individual's right to carry a concealed weapon, crime would go down. Ditto in Britain; you can't even carry a pocket knife there. "...from my cold dead hands...", bitches!!

Sorry Greg, but the U.S. has higher violent crime than most other "civilized" nations. the_finger.gif

  7. In light of the automatic weapons ban about to expire…

I have a good buddy who thinks that civilians ought to be allowed to own the same weapons as police. I didn’t question the right to bear arms or anything like that. I just asked if it was necessary for anyone to be allowed to own any weapon they please. To paraphrase, he indicated that he needed the same firepower as the cops should the U.S. ever become a police state a la Nazi Germany or Fascist Italy. I thought that was quite a marginal view, but now I’m wondering how prevalent this train of thought is?

  8. Most major cities in the UK have had CCTV for years. It's a good thing if you ask me (assuming it's used relatively responsibly). Mainly it was used to cut down the amount of yob violence cities had to endure during the weekend binge sessions by kids. However, it was also a good tool for catching some IRA terrorists back in the day as well as other kinds of crime spotting.

  9. Stunning development. Perhaps there's a chance afterall that we might see a regime change in the U.S? I haven't been holding out much hope for that bloke Kerry. This could be the pivotal point in the whole election...

  10. No, the system at Wimbledon is an electronic "eye" that tracks down the lines. It is used for calling serves in or out, since the men's game has gotten so out of hand speed-wise.

Yes, you're right. It's only used on serves.

  11. Chris Everett and Martina Navratilova played a demonstration match in Halifax some 6 or 7 (?) years ago, testing an automatic line-call system. There was an electronic grid laid along the side and base lines, and the ball had fine copper wires mixed in with the usual fuzzy stuff. If the ball landed out of bounds a bell rang or a red light flashed or something - pretty simple, really. As I recall, it worked well, and there was talk of employing it in tournaments on a trial basis, but nothing seems to have come of it.

But maybe it's just as well - there's no enjoyment in watching John McEnroe screaming at a little black box next to the water cooler.

This kind of system has been in place at Wimbledon for years.

  12. Well, we have a 20 year career as a bench-rider in Congress with which to judge Kerry.

Couple of things Greg. First is that I don't know of any criminal charge against Kerry. Second is that on the whole, Kerry seems like a far more interesting character than Bush. He played guitar, released an album with his buddies, went to war, does kite-boarding, snow boarding, cycling etc.

My last point has bugger all to do with the election but whatever.

  13. AP. Update 10.28am

Kerry and Bush to Duke It Out on American Idol

Trying to appeal to the younger crowds amid controversy surrounding each candidate's musical abilities, President Bush and senator Kerry confirmed that they will forgo the 2nd presidential debate and instead appear on an American Idol special edition. Duets with some of today's hottest acts are rumored to be in the works.

  14. Holy crap! I definitely did come out better. I could have got deported too!!! (some people on this site would say that's a good thing). yelrotflmao.gif

  15. Electras Controversy Surrounds Kerry

    Boston, MA

An album released by a band called The Electras during the 60s has been selling on sites such as eBay for as much as $2,000. The reason? Senator John Kerry was the bassist on the less than hit record. However, recent reports have surfaced that the band may not have actually been playing their instruments on the album and were in fact lip-synching a la Milli Vanilli style.

John Doe, Democrat spokesman said, “These rumors that Senator Kerry was not playing the bass guitar are completely fabricated. The Senator has funk and mad riffs that the Republican smear machine can only dream about. Milli Vanilli stooped to great depths to conceal their lack of musical talent, although it must be said that were great dancers at least. To suggest that Senator Kerry would adopt such underhanded tactics in an age free of the pressure of MTV awards is utter nonsense.”

Scott McLellan, Republican spokesman claimed, “I have listened to the album and it’s quite clear to me that no rich whitey could ever have played that throbbing bass. That shit is off the hook and quite frankly, dope! Senator Kerry needs to step forward to quell these rumors and it seems that the only way the American public will be satisfied is if he forms a band reunion and plays a live gig somewhere – preferably on live T.V. Incidentally, President Bush was the real deal back in the day and was known to panhandle back in Texas belting out country classics such as Stand By Your Man.”

It remains to be seen what effect this will have on an election only 7 weeks away.

  16. The imperfections are what make sports fun to watch and play.

Years of competitive soccer taught me half the game is influencing refs to be on your side.

I got banned from co-rec for smacking a ref. I realize now that physical intimidation doesn't work when trying to change a ref's decision. blush.gif
