  1. You could get a local dealer to order a front half for you. All they have to do is special order them for you from Grivel North America. Ask the guys at either Second Ascent, Feathered Friends or Pro Mountain Sports. They should be able to help you.
  2. I just became the Grivel rep for the NW. Looking for feedback on Grivel crampons, axes, tools, etc. What do you guys think about Grivel products? What do you like? What don't you like? Don't hold back, negative feedback is better than no feedback at all. Thanks in advance.
  3. I forgot about Pro Mountain Sports! They sell them too! Sorry, Jim!
  4. Mountain Gear sells them, but if you are thinking of going by the retail store, call first. You might find it easier to order from the catalog and have them shipped to you.
  5. Hey guys. Go to Feathered Friends, Second Ascent, or Marmot and check out the new Mammut Spectra runners. 8mm wide, 22kn breaking strength. SUPER SKINNY AND LIGHT!
  6. For those of you that are still interested in buying a new beacon, checkout the link. The info may also help those of you who are having a hard time figuring out why all of the additional "features" are included in the beacon's design. http://www.usmga.net/resourcesgear.htm
  7. Current digital technology gives only a range of 40 meters. That's why during the secondary search phase, it is recommended that if there are multiple searchers that they remain no more than 40 meters apart.
  8. Toast, Like I said earlier, most people won't need to adjust any settings on the unit. It's good to go right out of the box. You have the OPTION of changing the settings if you want to.
  9. Originally posted by Toast: "On a side note, I've heard the Barryvox is almost too sophisticated (way too many frickin settings,) and confusing to use." Toast, I agree that the Barryvox seems to have a lot of settings, but there aren't any more than you would find on a standard cell phone. You can switch from Digital mode to Digital/Analog mode, you can perform a test to see if everyone's beacons are transmitting signals, you can change the ear piece volume, you can adjust the time for the "revert back to send function", and you can switch it to keep the analog tone thoughout the search or have it turn off after the primary search phase. This may sound like a lot, but it really isn't. And it is really easy to switch from one funtion to another. Plus, when the beacon comes out of the box, it is already set to the "default mode" or digital mode. Most people won't need to adjust any of the settings at all. It's pretty much good to go from the start. If anyone is interested in looking at some test results from an independent test in Austria on all of the more popular beacons on the market, e-mail me and I can forward you a copy of it.
