Wild Country Rocks and Superrocks, doubled up on the middle sizes.

I am retiring my Maxim this year - it is the worst rope I have ever used.
I will be replacing it with a Mammut 10.5 60m duodess for all round use.
-
I have a new Integral Designs -20C bag. Very nice, and custom ordered like the Feathered Friends. They use a microfibre shell similar to FF's Epic shell. They also come with a cool silcoat compression stuffsack.
-
No other rope handles or wears like a Mammut. They are worth the extra money.

I stayed at the Embassy Suites (on my wife's company tab). Their corporate rate was $89 a night, and included a cooked breakfast and complimentary cocktails every evening. Close to downtown and only two blocks from TRAXX.
-
I was just in Salt Lake to do some skiing. It took me just over an hour and a half to get to the hills from downtown, using TRAXX and the Skibus. $5.oo US roundtrip.

Work, work, work.
Oh yeah, and planning this weekends climbing trip.

The Outdoor Research Wintersack is made of Dryloft and weighs 13 oz.
The Integral Designs saxk is made of Pertex microfibre and weighs 11 oz.
The dryloft bag would be more weatherproof, but a microfibre bag breathes better.
The warmlite website is somewhat fanatical, but their sleeping bag models are worth a second look.

I have an etrex summit. So far, I have not had any problems with the altimeter. I do take the time to calibrate it at the trailhead, with a known point or GPS information.
The electronic compass uses a lot of battery power, the specs say 16 hours versus 22 hours with the compass turned off. I generally always leave the compass off, and I still carry my trusty Silva Ranger.

I carry the BD D9.
It's big, red, and shiny, and it moves a lot of snow.

I will be in Salt Lake, 11 to 14 February.
Any interest in some winter climbing?
Ideas and beta would be appreciated.

La Sportiva Trango Plus - they have been on clearance since the new models were introduced.
Stiff, crampon compatible (pneumatic or strap), and they climb well.
-
I use a cascade designs Z-rest.
Very light and compact. Surprisingly comfortable.

The Suzuki Sikekicks/GMC Trackers are excellent vehicles, with a reputation for reliability and miserly on fuel consumption. There are some four door models with loads of cargo space.

I second the wool gloves recommendation.
MEC used to carry Schladlinger boiled wool gloves and mitts. Great dexterity and very warm.
I like, but do not own(yet) BD's dry tool glove.
OR Expedition Modular Mitts for when it is really cold.

Looks complicated - why be length adjustable if you are not improving floatation? The binding looks good though.
MSR Denali's are proven to be bomber, lots of traction and they can take a lot of abuse.

MSR Denali snowshoes, woolly socks and bait.

The arcteryx verro harness is more like the blizzard - alpine and ice oriented.

I have used a -7C down bag for years, with both a bivvy-bag and a synthetic overbag. The bivvy bag does not really make the system any warmer, and the condensation buildup is a big factor. The overbag works well, you can feel the ice crystals in the overbag. However, the overbag only extends the use of your main bag, it does not make it a winter bag.
I splurged this year and bought a -20C Integral Designs down bag

Thorlos and Smartwool = expensive
Wigwam 40 Below wool socks = comfortable, effective, cheap - $8.00CDN @ MEC

Climbing Diedre by starlight - topping out and eating breakfast at daybreak.

Since Santa has become somewhat uneliable, I took matters into my own hands this year:
Atomic 9.22 skiis
Denali boots
Fritschi bindings
BD Clipfix skins
BD Sabretooth clip crampons
La Sportiva Trango Plus boots
Integral Designs -20C Down bag

Another vote for Superfeet. Definitely try them out, they feel different at first, but they are well worth it. Especially if you have high arches or overpronate.
