Thanks Dave, yup, nothing has changed in 20 years!!! Happy for me, sad for lazy ones missing out. Is this where you put a ??? I'm so psyched I found this web-site. If you read the mags you would think the whole damn sport is a bunch of pantywaist, PC, navel-gazing salad eaters. urk. Keep up the spirit. Hopefully I can get back to the great PNW and get smelly again....

Actually, I need to add that Doorish has a LOT of style and put up some great routes. We followed a bunch of 'em! for Pete.

Well I knew about the first wave; Doorish had a second wave? Oops, that's not his style, is it!

That was 20 years ago pal! They didn't have crack back then! Just very kind bud and we gave ourselves every opportunity to use it. They also didn't have a lot of trails. We had no car and were on the bus route, we got dropped off where the Trans Canada meets the PCT. The return death march, (ran out of food after 20 days) took us under 48 hours. A little over a 100 miles with donkey loads of old climbing gear. Not much was developed back then and we had some FA's mostly on Amphiteater but never bothered to "report" (bunch of 5.8 and 5.9 stuff). If I didn't have to dig my red book out of some box in the garage I could reasonably describe where they were. We were definitely of the "hey, that looks like a good line, let's climb it" school. Not very much brain power going on.

Har, nice. When we went it was 4 days approach in with 100lbs packs from canada off the PCT. (uphill both ways ) That's cause we had no car and buses didn't go across to come in from the south. Where is the Canada approach now? Do they still have horse trips in there? Friendly cowboys gave us steak and eggs after we froze on the side of Amphitheater one night. But that is giving out too much info....

I did one of those long face routes there around 20 ya and remember that area as one of the best I've ever been to. (If you like slogging gear for a day or so). I live in the midwerst now and wonder if that is a popular spot yet. Cheers!
