  1. this is an excellent and lightly used setup for a small/light person learning to tele (think that gf you've been wanting to get into telemark bindings have good heel retention, which helps with the transition from alpine. skis are short and have very soft flex. asking $150.
  2. well done! is a 'backcountry skiing: north cascades' in the making i wonder
  3. you guys left last sunday evening ? we must have run into you at the cascade pass trailhead, we were a group of 3 on skis and you had started up the trail ? too bad about the weather, at least the skiing was good!

skied it yesterday, do yourself a favor and don't follow the trail, go directly to the pass, will save you a lot of time. if following the trail, you cannot put the skis on until the final traverse below the pass. we had to take the skis off a couple times on the arm to cross patches of dirt. the snow was excellent though and the views unbeatable. so i'd say go soon...
  5. mec.ca has boreal shoes for kids for $45 US.
  6. that wasn't us. we were a group of 3 on skis, i think we did talk to tobyt though...
  7. went up the 23 and 24th, road indeed clear to the trailhead, patchy snow up to the kulshan cabin site, than mushy aaall the way to how far we got, which was the saddle at 9000, where we turned back due to visibility down to 30ft and strong gusty winds. encountered only one slightly open crevasse on the upper coleman. things looked pretty stable, considering the warm temps, saw only minor sluffs but some more noticeable rockfall. best skiing btw 5 and 7000ft. did on lap after setting camp friday night, have never skied bc at 9 pm...add good snow, great views and it adds up to a good trip, even without summiting...
  8. weekend_climberz: thanks for the info. and dru: skis, tho' with no sub-freezing temps forecasted for the rest of the week, there shalt be mush i dare say...still way better than postholing...

gary, thanks for your reply. here's what we found: the river crossing was very easy on comfortable logs, found about 50 ft back down the road from the parking lot. if you pass a little trailhead bulletin board on your left on the way to the river, you know you'll find the right logs. very few bugs. snow starts at the top of the second talus field. the descent gully into roush creek is nicely marked with a piece of pink tape. 2 small crevasses noticed on the eldorado glacier, before the flats at 7500 ft. couple more on the way to eldorado peak, all easily avoided. we used crampons, the snow was a bit hard on the way to the summit in early morning.
  15. i saw the arm from quite a distance on sat (hidden lake peaks) and it looked quite bare for a ways up from cascade pass. might have to hike a while...
  16. has anyone been on eldorado recently ? are there any open crevasses ? how is the river crossing, is the customary large log still in place ? thx in advance
