Summit Rolos and I decided NOT to climb the NR or Baker this weekend given the heavy snow fall on top of the ice and the rapid warming. We ended up doing a little trad climbing up at Squamish for the weekend.

I can't join you but I am curious to know which approach you are doing? I made it within 200 feet of the summit two years ago and we came in via the nasty river crossing, which was quite the adventure since the river was running high.

Fromage, did you climb how was the route. My buddy and are thinking of climbing the NR sometime in the next 10 days if the conditions and weather warrent it.

My buddy and I backpacked up the climbers bivy over the weekend. There was fairly consistent show above the Dicky Creek Crossing so ... leave ample time for route finding if you are not familiar with the route since the route is covered. And, the log that cross Dicky Creek has broken. You can still cross but be careful since the wood is wet and the top of the log that you walk on is heavily tilted downhill. The ridge along the cravase near the climbers bivy is clear and there are lots of nice campsites before you jump on the Carbon Glacier to assend Liberty Ridge. I like the idea of washing the straps on a regular basis. But, most of the time I am wearing a polypro shirt so the straps are not in direct contact with my shoulders.

When I carry heavey packs my shoulders suffer, ie my pores clog up and I get breakouts. Has anyone heard of a solution that will prevent this from happening? Deoderants? Wipe the shoulders clean every hour? Tape the shoulders? (which would just clog them more I would think)

My buddy and I are thinking of climbing the north ridge of baker, weather permitting, this weekend. Has anyone been up there yet? How far up the road do you have to hike to the trail head? How broken up is the glacier? What were the conditions on the route like?

Did you climb Silver Star? I am thinking of going this weekend and I am wondering what the conditions are like.
