  1. Is anyone familiar with Cat Lake Rd off the 99 to access Brohm Ridge on Garibaldi? Is this passable in a 4WD truck? Apparently this road is used by snowmobilers, so accessible now (?). I'm having an early season jones and may try Garibaldi from Brohm Ridge. Any beta, including snow conditions would be great. Thanks.
  2. Yes, very tragic and sad. I caught the story this AM. See http://communities.canada.com/theprovince/blogs/newsroom/archive/2009/04/24/north-shore-search-and-rescue-member-dies-in-fall.aspx
  3. Thanks for the info, much appreciated. Guess I'll give it another few weeks.
  4. Has anyone been up Cat Lake road (Garibaldi Park) in the last few weeks? Can one make it by 4x4 truck up to the Snowmobile Hut? Would like to try Garibaldi via Brohm Ridge, NE Face. Thanks for the beta.
  5. Wow, thank you very much. Very useful information, much appreciated. Cheers.
  6. Does anyone have beta on the supposed new (?) rap stations on the lower half of Mt Sir Donald? The rap apparently will drop you below the col. Good for getting down quickly in one piece, but a loooong day due to not bivying at the col. Thanks.
  7. Thanks for the opinions to ponder. Unfortunately, and surprisingly, choices are pretty limited in Vancouver, so will go with the best fit. Thanks again.
  8. Hello- Any opinions on approach shoes, e.g. 5.10 Guide or Camp 4, Scarpa Espresso? I'd like to do the obvious with these; carry a pack, do moderate routes, and not carry boots and climbing shoes. Thanks, Michael
  9. Sure, why not try to plan something, with or without sausages and potatoes. A network of sorts might be good in this town.
  10. Thanks for everyones' responses. Surprised there aren't more "core" shops in town!?
  11. Which mountain shop in Vancouver do you think is best? New the to the area and need to replace some worn out gear. Don't have time to 'power shop.' Thanks, Michael
  12. Thank you very much! Cheers, Michael
  13. Hello- Is there a guidebook similar to Potterfield's 'Cascade Select' books for the BC area. If not, can you recommend a guide for alpine climbing?, something other than the Beckey book. New to the area, looking to get acquainted. Thank you, Michael
  14. Owen's partner on N. Ridge of Forbidden (initial post) says thanks for the informative and civilized beta. We'll check out the gulley instead of the col. The east side of Boston also sounds good. Thanks again.
