Hink Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Ultra-light backpack folk seem enamored with everything Cuben. Does the recently introduced "waterproof/breathable" Cuben work? I am primarily interested in knowing if folks have experience with its durability in North Cascades brush and rock (thinking rips/tears), but also interested in durability from a wearing-out standpoint, degree of water resistance, and degree of breathability. Cuben has enormous potential, but what is the reality? Quote
mocco Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 (edited) Don't have any technical knowledge of the fabric, but spent a rainy, stormy and cramped night on Mt. Baker in a Brooks Range Rocket tent my partner had. I believe he said it was made from Cuben fibre. Us two sweaty fartbags woke up dry. Neither the rain outside or the condensation inside were any problem. One night isn't a very conclusive test, but I was impressed. Edited October 30, 2013 by mocco Quote

Hink Posted November 2, 2013 Author Posted November 2, 2013 Yes, that Zpacks jacket is the one that I am contemplating. Quote
