shaoleung Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Has anyone been up on Olympus in the last couple of weeks? Any word on the Bergschrund/snow conditions? Quote
crankinstein Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 (edited) Had great conditions July 1st. Snow at Glacier Meadows. Minimal cravasses on the Blue Glacier. Nice snow conditions all arround. We chose Crystal Pass. Once over the false summit we climbed the rap route which was low 5th class to reach the summit. All above a marine layer that lightly misted for both hiking in and out. Good times! [img:center]http://cascadeclimbers.com/plab/showfull.php?photo=76530[/img] Edited July 4, 2012 by crankinstein Quote
Jason L. Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Ditto what he said. Just got back last night and only thing to add is 4th of July route looks like its out. Wish we had left pickets at home. On the way down the backside of five finger area we ran into a couple coming up fairly late (2pm), older man with short white beard and younger female companion. We saw them again as they passed through Glacier Meadows around 6pm. They claimed to be heading for the car...where they had started from that morning. is that even possible? Quote
farflung Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 That's roughly a 40 mile, 8,000 foot day. Burly. It's been done though: http://www.wwwright.com/climbing/speed/2004/06/buzz-burrell-climbs-mt-olympus-in-16.html Quote
Jason L. Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 ThaNks for the link. I've done timberline trail in a day (which has comparable stats) but this just feels like it would be so much tougher. Quote
