There are still spots available for Planning and Routefinding Seminar with Peter Clitherow!

Taken the alpine scrambling or basic climbing class, but not sure how to organize a trip? Back by popular demand on the fifth occasion, this seminar is for you! Designed for the needs of the climbing and scrambling community, we will spend the first evening outlining how to plan and organize a trip by picking up where the navigation class leaves off. How to assess different terrain on topographic maps, how to estimate travel times, how to pick interesting routes and more. The second evening will be spent planning in detail an outing to be undertaken by seminar participants with the leader (a scramble and climb leader). Typically, we will plan an off trail, back-country route somewhere in the Alpine Lakes wilderness area, though if participants wish, the North Cascades and Olympics are fair game too. In either late July or August depending on participant availability, we will do the planned weekend outing on non-technical (scramble) terrain. Packs will be fairly light, as we'll have only backpacking and scramble gear. Participation in the field trip is optional.

Prerequisites: None for the evening classroom seminars, for the field trip, a navigation card and being a student or graduate of the climbing or scrambling class.

Registration necessary. The Mountaineers members and non-members welcome.

Activity Fee: Member: $25.00 / Non Member: $30.00

Two evening meetings plus field trip in July or August. Participation in the field trip is optional.
