hikerchick83
Has anyone climbed Mt Shasta via the Avalanche Gulch route in the last couple weeks? Im curious to know what the snow conditions are like.
rocky_joe
Conditions last week were great for climbing, not so much for skiing. A storm moving through the area right now might change that. When are you planning on climbing? Â
dunemonkey
I don't know about hiker chick, but I'm looking to climb and ski this coming weekend. Up to Lake Helen Friday, Summit and descent Saturday. I'm from Oregon, but I read that the winter snowfall at Shasta was slim, but that the spring kind of brought in some good snow (Actually, Mt. Hood suffered the same fate up here). Â Skiing not looking so great, though, huh? Â
dunemonkey
Anybody else know about the snow levels there recently. I'm still shooting for a Fri/Sat summit with skiing, but I'm curious about snow coverage on the runout, etc. I'm I going to be able to ski most the way up and back from Bunny Flat or am I going to be booting it a lot both ways? The first thing I'm going to need is the crazy ass 40-50 mph, with 75 gusts forecast for Wed to chill the hell out by Friday!
sean0
I'm hoping for a friday/saturday summit too. Crossing my fingers for calm conditions!
