Water Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 So click the link or read below. http://www.timberlinelodge.com/heli/ I didn't see any news about timberline being granted some exception to the wilderness act. I'll contact the number below to get clarification. So really, helicopters in wilderness area for recreation, didn't think that was allowed outside of frank church river of no return wilderness area with landing strips they have. I'm surprised this is allowed. Or if they don't put a skid on summit are they clear of having a motorized vehicle in the wilderness area? --------------------------- Starting later in April, Timberline Lodge will be offering helicopter service to the summit of Mt. Hood for skiers and snowboarders. Previously the summit was only accessible via a technical climb — usually up the south face of the mountain. Now more people will be able to enjoy the incredible panoramic views, and the even better skiing available from the 11,245′ elevation of the mountain. An AS350B3 A-Star Helicopter, modified for high altitude transport, will whisk you and 3 other skiers to the summit in just under 5 minutes. Flights will be limited to a small window of time each day, to allow mountaineers safe passage to the top without concern of dealing with the rotor wash the helicopter may produce. Depending on run time, skiers will likely get 4 to 5 runs in per day. Reservations are required. Must be an advanced level skier or rider to participate. Daily Schedule: 8am – Meet at Timberline Wy’East Day Lodge 8:30am – Gear Preparation 9:00am – Avalanche Safety Training 11:00am – First Lift To Summit 4:00pm – Return To Day Lodge $795 per person, per day. 4 people maximum per day. For more information, or to reserve your space, use the form to the right. We will get back in touch with further details.
