I didnt really "need" a new headlamp, but this thing is so cool I couldn't resist! If you get one headlamp, make it this one. It is brighter (60 lumens), has a longer battery life (160 in economical mode), is lighter (80g), and has more features (red light and emergency whistle in strap buckle) than the previous headlamps in the Tikka series. About $50.

I agree they are nice, but for the life of me, I don't understand why more people aren't adopting regulated LED technology. Seems like a no-brainer to me, and yet on a consumer level people are not buying into it.

 

This is a good lamp in that they made it able to take lithiums and rechargeables, and of course the button design is much better

I actually was asking the local mammut rep about why there aren't more regulated headlamps recently and his answer was that the regulated lamps have an adverse affect on avi beacons and their accuracy.
