rockrock513 Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Hi, I'm looking for leather ice climbing boots in a size 48/ us 14. Before i start ordering boots to try on I'd love to hear from big footed climbers. Thanks, R Quote
giza Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 A lot of manufacturers cap their boot size at 47.5, so I feel your pain. Scarpa Summits come in sz 48 - good boots for winter mountaineering, but I find them a bit sloppy for steep ice; it's difficult to tighten them enough for a really secure fit. However, out of the box they were a comfortable boot and were warm. Vasque 47.5 seem to fit big so you may want to give some of their models a try. Quote
Jonah71181 Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 I'm a sasquatch of the size 16 species and know the struggle for specialty footwear. For ice climbing, I managed to fit into a used pair of U.S. size 15 Koflach's I bought at AAI. With superfeet insoles, they've worked great, even for hiking. I prefered plastic since they were extra stiff and super warm. When they wear out, I'm eyeing the Lowe Civetta Extreme GTX which go up to size 16!! B.t.w. I found Scarpa carried their Matrix Randonnee boot to Euro size 50 (US 15). Happy big shoe hunting. Quote
