Has anyone done this route. From Leroy Basin to Maude scramble to Carne Mountain and then down. Or the other way around from Carne Mountain to Leroy Basin? If you wanted to camp between Carne Mountain and Maude are there any good places with water sources? Looks like a nice casual outing. Thanks for any and all beta.

There was water on the high route when we went through at the end of August last year. There are several good spots near the "trail" for camping. The trip from Maude over to Carne goes fairly fast though so we opted to press on to Carne Meadow for the night.

To start onto the Carne High Route from the saddle above Ice Lakes, follow the path down towards the SE and traverse below the cliffs on talus over to the saddle between points 7425 and 8017. Here's a pic:

Once at the saddle, continue down the talus slope on the other side and forage for a faint path in the trees near the bottom. Descend just far enough to contour below some cliffs on your left. Once you find the path, it stays fairly obvious for a ways. If you lose it, scan ahead and you'll usually spot it again. It will eventually fade back out along the ridge that heads down into Box Creek Basin. At the south end of the flat basin is a horse camp and a stream. The trail picks up again at that elevation and stays appearant for the rest of the way. Hope that helps a little. Here's my trip report in case you can get some more info out of that: Carne High Route
