bjorkman0214 Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 I looking for one solid climber to join with me (I am only interested in a two-person team)in June on this most beautiuful, remote and intriguing mountain; male or female does not matter; what I do ask is that you have previous high altitude climbing experience, are fit and ready for the excitement to be had, that your time available to be on the mountain is flexible and are fun and easy to get along with on storm-bound days in the tent; oh, and please, not be a right-wing republican. bjorkman0214 Posted March 28, 2009 Author Posted March 28, 2009 No, I haven't seen those recommendations; I have found a couple of different Air Taxi companies that fly into St. Elias and I will be giving them a call. I am also considering approaching the climb from the sea. This would involve renting a dory, or something along that line in Yakutat and rowing the 60 miles (with all of the gear and food) or so from Yakutat to a landing in Icy Bay where the final approach by foot to the base of St. Elias would begin. This obviously would add considerably to the time, commitment and adventure of the expedtion and I am quite intriqued by that possibility. Another note: I have been interested in climbing St. Elias for quite some time now and back in 1992 I communicated with Bradford Washburn (an expert on climbing activity in the area; he has since died) about new possible routes on St. Elias and he told me that there were two excellent possibilities. He sent me photos and information in that regard. I ended-up burying those plans; but, I have now resurrected them. I do not know if the routes he suggested have since been climbed; but, nonetheless his suggestions still look very interesting to me. But, at any rate, it would be a grand adventure, very comitting and surely challenging and possibly take around a month to complete, visualizing the variables involved. Quote
jhamaker Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 The air fare will probably be prohibitive for me. I've got cheaper FA's lined out but a volcano eruption and a partner short of funds nixed that. Boat - I'd just hire someone to drop you off. Lots of boats in the area. Quote
