Minor parties & wasting votes

I've seen a lot of comments about how voting for a minor candidate is "a wasted vote."

 

I think that's bullshit. The American political landscape has plenty of dead parties that once held much influence. The republican party and democratic party, as we know them, won't last forever.

 

There are 3 other parties in this election that are on the ballot in enough states to gain a theoretical chance of actually winning the national election: The Libertarian Party, the Constitution Party, and the Green Party. Voting for someone who is not LIKELY to win is NOT the same as voting for someone who CAN'T win.

 

Voting for a minor party that doesn't have ballot status in enough states, and can't POSSIBLY win the national election (cough cough Nader) -- now THAT is a wasted vote.
