MonteVerde Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 (edited) We are taking a group up Rainier next weekend (Aug. 25th) and are trying to determine whether to climb the DC route or go up Emmons from Schurman. Does anyone know how much the Emmons climb has been re-routed or how much longer, on average, it's taking parties to summit? Sounds like DC is about an additional 1 hour up. Also, there is some concern about crossing ladders -- anyone know how many ladders are currently set up on each route? Thanks! Edited August 18, 2007 by MonteVerde Quote
Kraken Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 no ladders on the route, just a semi-circumnavigation under the actual Cleaver. Straightforward and fun. Quote
Mountainstyle Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Call the park and get a report from the rangers. The white river campground ranger station should have an update from Schurman. The approach from White River is "fun." The trail didn't fair well after the storms this winter. I was up there July 6-8, it isn't too bad... but you need to save some for the hike out. Personally, I like the Emmons route better than D.C. Quote
