will_climb_4_views Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 What's with a week-long series of storms in July? This stinks. So much for a long-anticipated trip into Challenger. But I've got time off and I want to get out of here. On Sunday we're supposed to get the remnants of a Pacific typhoon! Stupid weather. Any idea if Shasta or Lassen are still climbable this time of year, or is the 100-degree heat in the central valley a complete non-starter? Technical or non-technical glacier slog or scree scramble. Nothing new in the trip reports section on CA. Any other good alpine route suggestions in Oregon that are in good condition? We'll probably have an odd number, so probably no extended rock climbs. Mark_Husbands Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 bring your odd group to the sierra, and enjoy the rock. Quote
jessbee Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 Shasta sucks right now...unless you're into climbing miles of scree. Low snow year combined with wicked heat I guess. Not sure about Lassen. My Shasta report from Jul. 9 Quote
ChrisC Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 There are plenty of other routes on Shasta besides the traditional Muir route. The glaciers are in pretty decent condition. Check out the Hotlum for a great climb past ice falls and big cracks or the Hotlum-Wintun for less creavasses and straight forward slogging. Peace. Quote
