jonnyd Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Trip: mt baker - coleman glacier Date: 4/14/2007 Trip Report: just some quick beta on the latest @ mt baker... lead a trip of 11 climbers from wwu on mt baker this weekend via heliotrope/coleman glacier. you can drive almost all the way to the trail head (we got to mile 6.5, the trail is @ 8.0), snow shoes or skis were needed all the way to high camp (would have been nice above too, and the skiing looked great from about 10000 feet to 5000 feet). route is starting to shape up. seems like that whole mountain is a wind tunnel. seems like almost every slope was totally wind loaded (yikes). anyways, we made it to about 10300 and fractured a slab on the roman wall, beat feet and got the hell out of dodge. seems like most crevases are still sleeping deep under the snow. now the sunburn on my face is starting to drip on the keyboard so i had better get going... j Gear Notes: standard mountaineering get up Approach Notes: bring floatation and expect a 1.5 mile road walk to get to the trailhead.
