Jedi Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 (edited) Thinking about the EV3 for next summers trip to AK. Just planning on using the EV3 while acclimating on the West Butt. We have a lighter tent for the route. So has anyone spent anytime in one? Comments? Thanks, Jedi Edited November 14, 2006 by Jedi Quote
Arc Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 Marmot makes an ev3? Anyway.....if it was a typo and you meant a MT hardware ev3...then I can say its an ok tent (perfect staging tent), it does its job well. I like my ev2 better ofcourse. I used my ev2 all up and down denali before, and found that condensation was minimal on some days, however the ev3 has bigger vents, and works a bit better in that area. Quote
Jedi Posted November 14, 2006 Author Posted November 14, 2006 DOOOOHHHH! Thanks for the correction Acr. Yes, the MH EV3. That's good to hear the MH EV3 has bigger vents. It wil just be 2 of us, but I thought the bigger tent might be nice. I am finally leaving the North Face VE 25 (I think that is what it is called) at home. It's a great staging tent but at 10 1/2 pounds, it can stay at home this go around. Does the EV has anything that seperates the built in vestible from the rest of the tent? Jedi Quote
Alpaholic Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 (edited) No, from the inside, the built-in vestibule just looks like more tent, no separation. The tent is great for your intended application. Definitely bomb proof. I've been impressed with MH tent construction. They seem like they could weather anything. Spent two nights in the EV2 at 11,000' recently in the Sierra and we experienced virtually no condensation (though we had high winds (60mph) which no doubt helped the situation). I remember thinking the tent felt surprisingly roomy as well. Edited November 14, 2006 by Alpaholic Quote
mountainmatt Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I slept in an EV3 this summer and really liked it. There was a lot more space in it than I thought there would be (three people plus our packs). There was little/no condensation when we had the vents slightly open. Quote
Arc Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Correction.........................My bad, typo on my part, what else.....Sorry- I wrote the wrong thing. Your still a dick MMatt Quote

mountainmatt Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 You wouldnt find condensation to be a problem in the summer.............duh? It went below freezing dumbshit. Quote

mountainmatt Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Sorry- I wrote the wrong thing. All good. I used it up on Rainier where it was below freezing at night. No problems with the EV3. Your still a dick MMatt Awe, does somebody need a hug? Quote
Arc Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Yes.... can we cuddle and drink hot chocolate besides the fire place again. If you let me rub your back, I'll give you your favorite foot massage....ta-he-he-he. Quote
faster_than_you Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 I have a practically new EV 3 for sale. IT's in fab shape, drop a note if you're interested. They retail for $750, I'm asking $400 OBO. Quote
Kraken Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 for the cash you might as well get an Eldorado?I-Tent Quote
Jedi Posted November 23, 2006 Author Posted November 23, 2006 I have the El I-Tent. It has less sq footage. When hanging in a tent for several weeks, it's nice to have a little extra space. Especially on weather days. It's not going any higher than 14K so the 7 1/2 weight is not a big deal. The snug 2lb 5oz tent is for the technical route. If I had $400 right now, I'd jump on Faster's tent. Jedi Quote
Kraken Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 the Eldorado has 3.3 SF more than the I-Tent. For the few ounces, that extra room is highly worth it. Quote
Jedi Posted November 24, 2006 Author Posted November 24, 2006 Yes, you are right, the I tent is bigger than the El tent. What I meant was the EV3 (48 s.f.) is bigger than the Eldorado(31 s.f.) Sorry, I should had clarified. Jedi Quote
