putter Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Hi. I'm from Hawaii and have zero experience with cold weather clothing, thus I thought I would ask my question here. I am taking a trip to Switzerland in mid October where I expect the temperatures to be around 35 to 55 degrees F. I will also be taking a couple of day trips to the top of a couple of peaks (Jungfrau, Eiger). I purchased a Mountain Hardwear Windstopper Tech jacket which is made of Gore Windstopper fabric. It seems a little thin to me for such cold weather. Do any of you have experience with this type of fleece jacket and do you think it will keep me warm enough under those types of conditions, or should I bring a sweater to wear under it? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks. Quote
Arc Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 I say bring a sweater my friend+the jacket. Layering is an ideal way of making up for mistakes...................meaning, layer your butt off, and just know that you could strip off some if need be. Quote
putter Posted September 25, 2006 Author Posted September 25, 2006 Makes sense. Thanks for the feedback. Quote
spotly Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Definitely layers. I've worn that jacket on some cold winter climbs and it did well as long as I kept moving. A good parka for an outter layer is always nice. Being from Hawaii, I'd bet a parka would feel good at 70 huh Quote
putter Posted September 26, 2006 Author Posted September 26, 2006 When it's 70 here, I get the extra blanket out at night. And when the wind blows, it can feel like 65. Brrrrr..... Quote
