freezerburn Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 I'm going to be hiking up the Whitney trail on the 19th and 20th of September. Ordinarily, I'd take everything including the kitchen sink, but this time I have to go light. Would a 32 degree bag be sufficient? How cold does it usually get up there in late September? Quote
chris Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 I think a 32 degree bag would be more than enough. I spend June - September using a 40 degree bag and use a schoeller jacket, microfill sweater, or belay parka to add warmth. Right now I'm using the schoeller at 11,300 (Upper Boy Scout Lake). How cold does it get? Well, it can and probably will dip below freezing at night. Daytime highs right now are in the upper 70's and 80's, depending on the elevation. Quote
