Question re: Norman Thomas

Folks: I apologize if this is not the correct forum, but does anybody know who the hell Norman Thomas is?

 

I have seen his named chopped into rock on the summit of Middle Sister, the top of Lil Bro, and just above the chickenheads but below the summit on the pinnacle of Three-Fingered Jack.

 

It's probably other places as well, but I wasn't really paying attention until now.

 

Just curious if he's some significant person, or just an ass who likes hammering on rocks.

Damn hippie/commies are trying to claim the cascades for their own little red ecotopia. Oh whoops, err, I mean Comrade Thomas was a great patriot in pressing for an egalitarian, hate free, progressive soceity by demarking the future territory on the summits of cascadian volcanoes.

Wierd that I didn't come across this when I googled the name and "middle sister".

 

Maybe the "F*&K U Hippies, Log the Earth" chalked onto a rock on the PCT on the way to Jack was a response to Mr Thomas and his ideals! Ha!
