Fishing in September in 'Echantments'?

'Raised my son climbing in NH White Mtns. and catching native brookies for breakfast, in the right places. He is returning the favor with an invitation to hike with him and his bride into the 'Enchantments' (their new backyard) the first week in Sep. Is it worth carrying a fly rod in at that time of year; if so any suggestions for flies would be appreciated. Thanks for the advice.

I'll have to let other folks chime in with regards to the enchantments, but since it sounds like you're pretty familiar with the fishing in the Whites - do you have any suggestions for late-summer/fall flyfishing up there? I'll probably be spending a fair amount of time up there once the heat/humidity/bugs start to fade away a bit. Many thanks.

North of the White Mtns. out of Pittsburg the Connecticut R. connecting the three CN Lakes is good until mid-Oct., and also Back Lk. Further So. (but north of Berlin) there are some good pools on Androscoggin R...either do-it-yourself with advice about pools from local fly shops, or you can hire a guide and drift boat. Still further So. off Rt. 302 (No. of No. Conway) the Dry River trail follows the Dry R. (a rocky Brook off the side of Mt. Washington) which is full of native Brookies (6-9 in.). In and around No. Conway the Saco R....right behind the golf course in No. Conway there are some huge and wary Browns that will take a #18 or 20 on a 6X and then break you off in the snags...best to fish these guys for the take and not the catch...snip the hook off at the bend. Out of Jefferson off Rt. 116 the Israel R. is a brushy wadable brook with nice Brookies. Further So. off the Kancamagus Highway between Conway and Lincoln the Swift R. has some nice pools and smallish Brookies, and also out of Licnoln the Pemmigewasset R. There are many beaver ponds and ponds as well with good Rainbows and Brookies. The local fly shops are very helpful for directions and access to these.
