scrambled_legs Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Planning on making the trip next year and want to get the beta on what areas to visit and what guide books to purchase now. Quote
Aya Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 If you go to the north island of NZ, you're going to want to get the New Ignimbrite Climbs book by Michael Camilleri - It describes most of the climbing in the Wharepapa region (which is really beautiful; it's where they shot hobbiton in the Lord of the Rings). If you're planning this as a climbing trip, you're probably better off hitting the south island, but if it's a sight seeing trip that might include Aukland as well, then definitely stop by! Quote
chipmunk Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 I was in Thailand in 2001, and have the King Climbers Route Guidebook, 3rd Edition, by Somporn Suebhait. Contact info listed on the back of the book: King Climbers P.O. Box 34, Krabi 81000 Thailand. Email: kingclimbers@iname.com, Fax 66-75-612 914. I picked up the guidebook when I got there. Had such a great time there, even named one of my dogs Krabi. Quote
Blake Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 Go to the south island, there are more quality crags than you can shake a stick at. I can give you more specifics if you want. The book for the south island is called "Rock Deluxe" by ivan vostinar... much better than the "South Island Rock." Quote
