I'm looking to tag along with a more experienced climber for a Rainier climb this summer. I have a lot of backpacking experience, but not a lot of glacier experience. I'm a runner by hobby, and have run several 3,000-ft peaks in Alaska, and backpacked up a few 10,000+ mountains. I'm moving to the East coast this summer and realize this could be my last chance to climb Rainier.

I've checked out several of the guide companies, but they are beyond my price range. I'm planning on renting most of the equipment I don't have (clampons, ice axe, poles).

My time frame is 6-10 July, I figure one night on the mountain.

Advice is appreciated, but please make it constructive.

Just wanted to add that I'm 24, in excellent shape (previous college runner), understand the dangers involved, and have a very level head.

I've lived in Seattle two years and will be moving this summer, and have always wanted to climb Rainier.

I could be interested. I've been on Rainier a couple times and have soloed Glacier and Shucksan (sitkum and sulphide, respectively). I agree that the guide services are pricey and not needed for most.

I would suggest a pre-trip trip to get acquainted with equipment, self arrest, etc. and to plan for a second night on the mountain if possible to allow for some flexibility.

PM me if you're interested.
