beecher Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 Heading to Winthrop Friday-Monday. Want to get up to WA pass. Never been over there in winter. Looking to ski and see some good scenery. How long is the tour up the road from the gate? I hear snow removal starts monday, will that ruin our good time? Any recommendations for day tours from the road closure? Quote
ketch Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 Probably won't ruin your trip. The trip from the gate is about 9 miles of pleasant stuff to the top. According to the DOT there is 5' at the gate, close to 10' for much of the highway, and 45' in places at the pass. I would imagine they will be at it a while. My .02 is go for it. Quote
beecher Posted March 19, 2006 Author Posted March 19, 2006 Thx ketch. Any recommendations for short tours off the hwgy before the pass? Quote
larrythellama Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 beecher....head up varden or silverstar drainages and ski up to the pass that way.....silver star is the shorter of the two. but varden will put you near kangaroo pass which is at the 2nd?? switchback on the highway. or ski from the road closure into cutthroat lk basin.
