highclimb Posted July 27, 2002 Posted July 27, 2002 ok so i know the route will probably be doable but the thing i am wondering about is will the coleman be crossable around the 10th or 11th of august? i was thinking since we had such a big snowfall year that it might push the season on this climb back a couple weeks? yes? no? any info or thoughts would be great! thanks, Aidan Quote
dR Posted July 28, 2002 Posted July 28, 2002 Hey...I've been up on Baker a couple times in the past couple weeks (coleman headwall and CD) and it seems to me that with the late snowfall accumulation that august would be okay...having said that, it has been quite warm for a number of days now and looks to continue for a little more...of course the crevasses will be more of an issue, along with the berg. at the base of the approach variation (which i strongly recommend if it'll go)...but i have climbed the n.ridge in july of a year with far less snowfall...so i guess what i'm trying to say is ya, i think early august will work...hope this helps a little...good climbing... dR Quote
fixedPin Posted July 28, 2002 Posted July 28, 2002 Was talking to a friend before i did it last month. He has done it several times and said he liked to cross the coleman way down low (5000')and then heading up. DOn't know if anyone else has tried this approach. Quote
Guest Posted July 28, 2002 Posted July 28, 2002 Let me check with an old friend of mine, Cleo. I'll bet she could predict Mt. Baker conditions for the middle of August. Of course you could always call her psychic hotline 800#. Quote
