Double_E Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 First of all... anyone been up it lately? How many, if any, crevasses would the glacier have this time of year? Most sources just recommend axe/crampons, but some indicate rope & full glacier gear. Also, would you call the summit scramble class 3, or "3-4"?? I've heard/read both. Some of my class 3 climbs include Washington, Stone, and Seven Fingered Jack... how would it compare to those? (actually Beckey says SFJ is only class 2, but I remember the last section being a little hairier than class 2 .... for me at least). thanks! Quote
DownInAHole Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 The Silver Star glacier does break up. I was up there 3 weeks ago and crossed a couple of snow bridges, so I would recommend roping up - especially now. Saw some fairly large crevasses. The scramble is class 3 and can be class 4 if you choose the wrong route, but it's easy to find the right route up. Quote
