thomashouse Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 We're heading to Baker next week and planning to hike in via the Ptarmigan Ridge trail and make camp at the Portals or Flats for a couple nights. Has anyone been up the Park Glacier direct, Cockcomb, or Park-Boulder cutoff late this season? I have not been to the area before and I don't know exactly what to expect in mid-August on these routes. Are the bergshrunds passable? Are any snow-bridges safe? Thanks for your help... -House Quote
pbelitz Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 We climbed the Boulder/Park Cleaver to the Park HW on Sunday. Quite passable, and the schunds are pretty easy to nagivate. Descending the Boulder back to the cleaver is still possible. I don't know if the Park proper still goes, it's starting to look pretty crevassed, but I didn't look very closely. The Cleaver is definitely worth your while, though. Quote
John_Scurlock Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 I went by there yesterday morning, you can look at a couple of shots of it here: http://www.pbase.com/nolock/image/47493612 http://www.pbase.com/nolock/image/47493615 I'll leave those up for a week or two. Quote
