lancegranite Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 Some of my first climbing was done on the mythical Lake Stevens boulder. A house sized granite erratic plunked down five minutes from Frontier Village, the rock provided fun top roping on good stone 15 minutes from I-5. a housing development bought the land and soon the rock was in somebodys backyard. The end happened much like the Malamute, bolts smashed, holds filled in with concrete. Anybody ever climb at this once cool place? Quote
ncascademtns Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 I lived in Lake Stevens for a few years and climbed at the rock. The rock is now a neighborhood park and yes, the hangers have been removed and the bolts smashed. The last time I went was a few years ago and I really looked out of place climbing on the rock and at the same time looking down on someones back yard. After being spoken to by a few neighbors, I realized that this was no longer my place to climb and that the rock was now the property of few dipshit people who had no use for it other than to look at it. After that, I never went back. If anyone is interested in viewing it, I believe these are the directions to get there (all by memory). Take hwy 205 up from hwy 2 and at the red barn gas station, take a right, take a right at the first housing development and head down across the bridge and take another right. Rock will be on your right. Take a peek but don't stay long enough for someone to question your presences. Remember the rock at Martha Lake Airport in south Everett? 1 bolt on the top. The airport has been fenced off and is soon to become a county park. Might be able to climb on that one someday soon. Doubt they'll move that one. Those were the days........ Quote

I take my kids there for toproping all the time. There are some fairly hard problems for adults too. Quote
ncascademtns Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 Wow! I live in Mill Creek but have no reason to drive by the area. The last time I was in the area, the place was fenced off. Must have been a couple of years ago or so. Think I'll drive by there today. Quote
ScottP Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 The fence is easy to get around and there is no posting (that I have seen) that says you can't be there. Quote
lancegranite Posted August 10, 2005 Author Posted August 10, 2005 As I recall, the Access Fund was trying to open talks with the homeowners....but that was in 1997. Quote
