dkemp Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 On Friday my pal Seth and I visited the Bathtub Dome area of Icicle Canyon. Neither of us had been there before. Not the best for a novice trad leader, but a great place for a beginner. Seth is no beginner, but he also enjoyed it. I am still a beginner, having a couple dozen trad leads under my belt, and I thought it was just right. The hike up from the car takes about 45 minutes. Boots are better than sneakers here. I led a one-pitch bolted number called Dave's Arete. Dave has a nice little arete - a great warmup with bolt anchors at the top. Then we climbed New Fixtures - 5.7. Yeah, really good for a developing trad leader. Takes gear just fine, lots of stuff to hang onto, and just spicy enough so you know you're really doing something. On the second pitch there's a really cool part where you're standing on this little tower, you sink a great hand jam, and step across to the main rock - fun stuff. If you are, like me, relatively new to leading on gear, visit Bathtub Dome Go get it! Quote
