a1leyez0nm3 Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 looking to climb vesper or another peak this weekend, looking for partners. i was wondering if you can climb vesper from road 61 off hw 2. ? Quote
Guest Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 the becky guide talks about a way to get to copper lake from hwy 2. not very many people go that way so i would imagine the trail can't be in good condition and knowing becky there may not even be a trail. of course you have to cross the vesper glacier if you come from hwy 2. now that i think of it that might be the best way to do the north face of vesper without having to do something crazy to get the base of the route from the other side, if you don't mind the possibility of some bushwacking to get to copper lake. i hope that helps. dave Quote
a1leyez0nm3 Posted July 6, 2005 Author Posted July 6, 2005 thanks dave. i think i will try that route. anyone know what the condition of the glacier is? road 61 is off highway 2, it is only accessable with a capable 4x4, as the bridges were taken out. http://mapmachine.nationalgeographic.com...758227,47.90772 does anyone know a better place for maps?? thanks chris Quote
a1leyez0nm3 Posted July 6, 2005 Author Posted July 6, 2005 i cant figure out how to link the spot, but look up by spada lake, there is a road that is just south of vesper peak. if you guys have washington atlas's they wil have it. Quote

chucK Posted July 7, 2005 Posted July 7, 2005 You could go that way I guess, but 1) for some reason, I think that road is no longer accessible (I could be wrong). 2) the now standard approach (through Headlee Pass via Sunrise Mine Road) is pretty quick, in the ~2 hour range. It does look beautiful down there though. Quote

ncascademtns Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Most likely to late for this thread but Spada Lake is now gated for security reasons and of course most of those roads fall short of what the map shows. Fastest and shortest way is through Headlee Pass. Quote
