Uncle_Tricky
I am trying to fact check some info for an article. I understand that Raffi Bedayn and Fritz Weissner were the first to climb snowpatch spire in the bugaboos? Is that correct? What date was the FA? thanks. Alpinfox
Ah. The origin of "snafflehound" story eh? According to "Bugaboo Rock - Green & Benson", FA was August 1940 by Jack Arnold and Raffi Bedayn. In 1938 Fritz Wiessner and Chappel Cranmer made a strong attempt, reaching a point below the foreboding black headwall aabove the snopatch on the SW shoulder. Deciding that the headwall would be predominantly aid, the pair quickly retreated. Wiessner later wrote that he was uninterested in "merely an affair of driving iron in virgin rock." Finally in August 1940, Jack Arnold and Raffi Bedayn completed what Wiessner and Cranmer had started.
