alponess Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 I'm planning a trip to climb in the Cordillera Blanca of Peru. As far as experience, I am a late beginner/early intermediate climber and I'd like to climb with someone with at least equivalent, hopefully more extensive experience than myself. Please send me a message if you are interested in climbing in Peru in August (between the 3rd and 23rd). Quote
ajb Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 I can't go but thought you might enjoy looking at some pics from my May 2002 trip to peru. http://www.babson.us/pics/peru/ A lot of climbing is done out of Huaraz. I didn't do any on my trip but did take a 3-day trek up the Quilcayhuanca Valley which was pretty nice. There are some nice peaks in that section of my pics. Quote
treknclime Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Word from a local friend in Huaraz is that Alpamayo "might" go up the French route (as of last week), since the Ferrari is impassible. Huascaran might go via the escudo, vs. the regular route...which sounds like traverse area going into CII is more dangerous than usual--and is being avoided. He mentioned the conditions were just poor in general, on both peaks. It didn't sound like it was an "ice" problem, which has been the case in past years. Based upon your post, these peaks are probably not on your list, but you didn't say. Be sure to post a TR on whatever you do. Have a great trip...it's a fun place! Quote
