Guest Posted June 25, 2001 Posted June 25, 2001 Can someone provide some beta on the conditions of the N Ridge? Is there snow on the upper N ridge? Is the shrund on Sharkfin col doable? What were recent snow conditions? Thinking about climbing it this weekend. After reading the park ranger stories on a different topic I a afraid to call the station for details in fear of getting bogus information. Then again I am asking information on the internet so how crazy can I be? Thanks Quote
chucK Posted June 25, 2001 Posted June 25, 2001 Self-registering is (was?) legal if you camp on the other side of Sharkfin Col (i.e. not in Boston Basin). To avoid dealing with the rangers, call them and find out what time the ranger station closes. Arrive there just after the closing time and self-register. Bivy at the car that night then walk in early the next morning. If you've got another night, I think it's legal to camp the next night in Boston Basin after you've spend one night in the cross-country zone. Chuck Quote
wotan_of_ballard Posted June 25, 2001 Posted June 25, 2001 my guess is it's still too early, fair amount of snow on rock, wet rock, and lots of sloppy snow/postholing on approach. maybe in a couple weeks. (I've been to the N side of Forbidden 3x over the years) Quote
Alasdair Posted June 25, 2001 Posted June 25, 2001 I was going to try it five or so weeks ago. Ended up on the west ridge. The N. Ridge had a fair amount of snow on it at that time but I would think most of it would be gone by now. I would give the route a go. Quote
