I used one a couple of years ago and it worked ok. It took about 4 hours for 3 of us to make a 3 person igloo. It was in the spring at stevens pass and the snow was pretty wet so it stuck together good. The 3 of us slept in it and didn't hear a sound all night when a storm came in. The people in the tents didn't sleep all that well.

 

I think it would be hard to build in powder snow and take longer. For the price $150+ I think a would rather build a snow cave. No extra gear to bring and less chance of majorly screwing something up. Now if I was in the plains with no hills to dig into for a snowcave or not very deep snow, I think It would be more practical.
