Mark_Husbands
For Sale: 200 bucks Down Bag made by small shop Santa Cruz Down Works, about 10yrs. old, used on King Trench, Mt. Logan and Sultana Ridge, Mt. Foraker. Good bag for expedition style slog-o-climbing like those mentioned or West Buttress Denali. I don't have any exact product details since its from an obscure maker, but this thing is very, very, fat and warm. name brand -20 bags looked anemic next to this thing, and I can testify to its comfortable use to -40 deg. (Logan). Sadly, it's also pretty heavy; I'm guessing 6+ lbs. If I can get a scale I'll post the weight. Shell is basic taffeta nylon, full draft collar, and one of those superfat zippers from the 90's. Longer than my reg. length bag from Marmot. Comes with VBL with these little ties that attach to little loops in the bag. Never used them myself because you always need to dry the VBL out anyhow. Also comes with green cotton storage sack. If I can find it I'll throw in a no-frills compression sack I used on it on Foraker. The sleeping bag has always been kept nice and dry in its storage sack, and has only been used on the two trips mentioned. Professionally cleaned after each trip before deep storage. It's in excellent shape. The VBL has that slight mildewy smell like an old tent, but the urethane coating isn't coming of or anything alarming like that. For all I know it's from this goddamn apartment which also smells like an old tent. You should always start a new lease in Seattle in the winter, because that's when the mold grows up the walls. Takes up considerable space, fits nice in Dana Astralplane, also in Yard Sale. Mark
