Does anyone know why Scarpa chose to do away with the Laser AT boot and make the "Matrix" instead? It seems that the Laser is very well loved and quite popular.

Scarpa still makes the Laser - they just don't sell them in the states because BD doesn't want to import them. Pairs are always popping up on eBay if you'd like a pair - I've heard the Matrix is slightly stiffer FWIW.

I got a pair from a guy after posting in this forum. Thanks cc.com! wave.gif

The Matrix is stiffer, has a less 'boxy' fit, has about twice the cuff range in tour mode, has continuously adjustable forward lean, and is mo' better. Why not update a boot that's five years old?

eh, I'm not sure Scarpa's done anything more than tweak their AT boots for a decade or more. Slightly change the last one year, add a different walk level the next, etc. I do want to check out the Tornado though!

Kinda true, but after several tweaks it's essentially a different boot. Compare the old three buckle Denali to the Denali TT. Same boot? Not really.

I suppose by not altering lasts significantly they keep a lot of customers who know the boots will fit. I know I fit a UK 12, so I can happily mail order the best deal. thumbs_up.gif

They're different boots yes; the boot "architecture" still has the same stiffness limitations - the floating Flexon style tongue seems to be inherently softer than other architectures. I just wish Scarpa would make a 4 buckle boot with Dynafit fittings - my lasers are dying and I want something stiffer, but don't want 2 pairs of boots.
