Hello Everyone,

I am new to the list and very far away from most of you since I live in Florida. I will be traveling to Portland in March of 2005 and I would like to climb Mount Hood via the South Side route. My regular partner will not be making this trip so I am looking for a partner/partners who have climbed this route before. I will have a couple days midweek and if the weather and conditions permit I would like to climb. I would not dismiss the possiblity of a guide for the day either. Please feel free to PM me with any help or questions.

Thank you,

Dale

if the weather is decent you can follow the crowds (and cc.com amigos) up the mountain.

However, with this much prep-time you should definitely practice walking in crampons and using an ice axe. I see you're in Florida so maybe plan to spend a day on Hood before the big summit push

Hello Everyone,

I will be in Canada in February doing a week of muti-pitch ice and mixed climbing and I also do sport and trad lead climbing. In colorado I have lead technical rock routes up to 13,864. So I guess I am trying to say that I have some experience climbing smile.gif Sorry for the brief resume but I travel often across the country and this is where I get my climbing opportunities from. From Florida I have to drive 6 hours to climb in North Carolina or Georgia.

Unfortunately,I will only have a two day window of March 9th and 10th, so the weather is the big factor.

Hope this helps.

the route you desire on Hood has no water-ice or rock in March, just moderate snow.

it is basically a slog with a final stretch of 35 deg. There is usually one crevasse/bergshrund to avoid (unless you get off route)
