there is not a trail up pyrites creek. you will have to bushwhack to such an elevation (about 4400-4500) as would make sidehill travel feasable, then go over the pass at the head of the creek and around the north side of the ridge that forms the north boundary of muncaster basin. it is very broken terrain with lots of gullies. there is then a ridgeline you can follow down to the low divide/ n. side of mt. carrie that would probably go through in the summer but turned us back in early fall with very slick snow over beargrass. if you go in the spring or fall bring snow travel gear and be REALLY up on your routefinding skills.
