No, this is not some made up organization from a South Park episode. An excerpt:

Founded in 1969, the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance is a non-profit human rights organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for fat people. NAAFA works to eliminate discrimination based on body size and provide fat people with the tools for self-empowerment through public education, advocacy, and member support.

One of their initiatives:

About the FATF

The Fat Activist Task Force is a coalition of activists participating in organized campaigns to fight size discrimination. Formed in 1989 in a concerted effort to get Hallmark to remove offensive products from their line, our success demonstrates the effectiveness of a coordinated voice directed at a single target.

Since that first campaign the FATF has continued to fight size discrimination. Recent projects have included:

Working with the Federal Trade Commission to help stop diet fraud

Assisting in a successful campaign to add height and weight to the list of characteristics protected against discrimination in San Francisco

Speaking out against a fat toddler being removed from her home

Helping an LAPD Officer who faced career-ending disciplinary action over reporting an offensive "No Fat Cops!" poster in a captain's office

Protesting LIFE Act H.R. 3177, which madated the development and demonstration of intervention strategies for the "overweight and obese" for use at worksites and in community settings.

Supporting Elizabeth Fisher in her campaign to change the existing federal regulation that requires automakers to manufacture seat belt that fit people up to only 215 lbs.

Well - if this organization has anything going for it, it's demographics. I bet even the folks at the AARP weep when they compare the size of their target demographic ten years out to these people's.

I am anxiously awaiting their efforts to pass punitive legislation against thin, fit people. Oh wait - we're already chipping in to cover their health care expenses........
